Common questions
The prayer times don't match my mosque
Open Settings (tap your picture on the Today screen), then Prayer times. Check the place, then pick the Calculation method used in your country and the Asr time: Standard, or Hanafi (later). Today updates straight away.
I'm not getting reminders
- In Settings, turn on Prayer reminders and allow notifications when the phone asks.
- On Android 14 and newer, allow Najma under Alarms & reminders so each reminder arrives right on time.
- Some phones (for example Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Huawei) stop apps in the background to save battery. In the phone's battery settings, let Najma run without restrictions.
I'm travelling
In Settings, under Prayer status, turn on Travelling. You can then mark Dhuhr and Asr together, and Maghrib and Isha together, on time in the time of either one. On Fridays Najma shows Dhuhr instead of Jumu'ah. Turn it off when you're home.
When you open Najma far from your saved place, it also offers to move your prayer times to where you are.
I'm excused from prayer (menstruation, after childbirth)
In Settings, under Prayer status, turn on Excused from prayer. Your streak pauses instead of breaking, reminders stop, and nothing is shown to your groups. When you're praying again, tap I'm praying again on the Today screen.
How do groups work?
Open the Group tab, create a group and share its invite code with family or friends. Groups are private: only people with the code can join, up to 100 members. Members see each other's weekly stars and streaks and can send a 👏, ⭐ or 🤲 du'a, but not your day-by-day history. The weekly ranking starts again every Saturday, and you can leave a group at any time.
Can my children use Najma?
Yes. A parent signs in and adds a profile for each child in Settings with Add someone, then switches between profiles under Who's using Najma?. Children don't need an email address of their own.
I forgot my password
On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password? and enter your email. If the email doesn't arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder. If you signed up with Google or Apple, sign in the same way again: there's no separate password.
Does Najma work without internet?
Yes. Prayer times are worked out on your phone, and prayers you mark while offline are saved and sent when you're back online.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Settings, then Delete account. Everything is erased straight away. See also how to delete your account.
